Cardiff’s a compact city for a dog-friendly break, with Bute Park and the Taff Trail right on the doorstep of the centre. We wanted somewhere with a specific, stated dog policy rather than a vague “pets welcome” badge, so here’s what Figo and I could confirm.
Hotels
Copthorne Hotel Cardiff, Culverhouse Cross
At Copthorne Way, Culverhouse Cross, Cardiff, CF5 6DH (Google Maps, hotel’s own FAQ page), dogs are welcome for £20 per night, per dog. The hotel asks you to contact them in advance to confirm the pet type and room availability, and runs a Pet Staycation offer from time to time, so it’s worth asking what’s currently on when you book.
Holiday Inn Express Cardiff Bay
At Longueil Close, Schooner Way, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4EE (Google Maps, hotel’s own site), dogs are welcome for £15 per pet, per night, with no weight limit and one pet per room. Pets aren’t permitted in the dining or lounge areas, and shouldn’t be left unattended in the room.
voco St David’s Cardiff
At Havannah Street, Cardiff, CF10 5SD (Google Maps, hotel’s own site), dogs and cats are welcome for £35 per room, per night, plus a £35 pet damage deposit. It’s one pet per room, and the hotel asks you to give advance notice and keep your pet with you in the room.
ibis Cardiff Centre
At Churchill Way, Cardiff, CF10 2HA (Google Maps, hotel listing), dogs are welcome for an extra £10 per pet, per night. Service animals are exempt from the fee.
What we couldn’t confirm
We looked for a self-catering cottage or campsite actually inside Cardiff with its own stated dog policy, and came up short. Several “dog-friendly Cardiff” lists exist, but most either don’t name a specific property or point to listings genuinely out in the Vale of Glamorgan, Pembrokeshire or Carmarthenshire rather than Cardiff itself. We’d also note that Premier Inn doesn’t generally take dogs at its UK hotels (its dog-friendly rooms are a 2026 trial limited to Dubai), so we’ve left it off this list rather than repeat a claim we couldn’t stand behind. If you know a genuine Cardiff cottage or campsite that takes dogs, let us know and we’ll add it.
A hotel stay away from home can unsettle even a well-travelled dog. We like the calming collars and treats at Calmshops as a complementary option — always check with your vet first if your dog has any underlying health conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a dog-friendly hotel in Cardiff?
Yes, we found four with a specific, stated dog policy on the hotel’s own site: the Copthorne Hotel Cardiff in Culverhouse Cross (£20 per night, per dog), Holiday Inn Express Cardiff Bay (£15 per pet, per night), voco St David’s Cardiff (£35 per room, per night plus a £35 deposit) and ibis Cardiff Centre (£10 per pet, per night). Premier Inn doesn’t generally take dogs at its UK hotels, so it’s not on this list.
Are there dog-friendly cottages or campsites in Cardiff?
We haven’t been able to confirm one actually inside Cardiff with its own stated dog policy. Most “dog-friendly Wales” lists we checked pointed to properties in other counties. We’ll add one if we find a genuine match.
