🐶 Why Choose AboutDogs?

about dog find your dog trainer

I’m Georgiana, and AboutDogs started because of our Cocker Spaniel, Figo. When we brought him home as a puppy, I spent hours trawling Facebook groups and old forum threads trying to work out which local trainer actually knew what they were doing, and which had just built a nice-looking website. It shouldn’t be that hard—so we built the directory we wished had existed back then. Every trainer we list has been checked for real experience, methods and client feedback, covering:

  • 🦴 Positive reinforcement specialists
  • 🐾 Breed-specific trainers
  • 🏡 Mobile and in-home trainers
  • 🎓 Accredited canine behaviourists
  • 📚 Puppy schools and group obedience classes

Every profile we list uses reward-based, force-free methods—the same approach we use with Figo—so you’re not left guessing whether a trainer’s style will suit a nervous puppy or a boisterous adolescent. Each one also lists real reviews, transparent pricing and what’s actually included, so you know what you’re booking before you get in touch. If you fancy a browse while you’re here, we also run Calmshops.co.uk, our sister shop where we round up the dog gear we genuinely rate.

Having questions about your dog or looking for tips before getting a pet?

Our Dog Forum aims to be the place where dog parents can communicate freely, sharing their experience and advice.

Andre and I built AboutDogs because we wanted the site we wish we’d had when Figo was a puppy—straight-talking advice, real UK trainers and services, and none of the fluff. We’re not a big corporate directory. We’re a family that loves dogs, doing our best to make finding good help a bit easier for you and yours.

Find a Dog Trainer Near Me — How It Works

1. Tell us where you are. Select your location to see local dog trainers near you.
2. Compare options. Filter by puppy training, recall, loose-lead walking, reactivity support, and more.
3. Book with confidence. View experience, qualifications (IMDT, APDT, ABTC), verified reviews and pricing before you contact a trainer.

What every listing includes

  • Reward-based only. We don’t feature trainers who rely on aversive kit or old-school dominance methods—if it’s not force-free, it’s not on AboutDogs.
  • Covers the whole UK. Trainers in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast, plus plenty of villages and market towns in between.
  • Fits real life. Home visits, small group classes, secure-field sessions or an online catch-up—whatever actually suits you and your dog’s routine.
  • No mystery pricing. Services, availability and travel radius are all listed upfront, before you ever need to send a message.
  • Puppy foundations: toilet training, socialisation, crate confidence.
  • Everyday manners: recall, loose-lead walking, calm greetings, settle on a mat.
  • Behaviour support: lead reactivity, excessive barking, separation-related issues.

Quick tips to pick the right trainer

  • Match the specialism to your goal (puppies, reactivity, gundog foundations, scentwork).
  • Ask for a written plan with milestones and practice between sessions.
  • Check insurance, first-aid and professional membership.
  • Choose a time/location you’ll stick with—consistency wins.

Ready when you are—search the directory above to find a trainer near you and get in touch directly. A bit of consistent practice plus the right professional guidance goes a long way; that’s exactly how we got Figo from an over-excited puppy to (mostly) calm on his lead.
