Dog Services in Belfast: Sitters, Groomers & Swimming

Dog standing at the seashore

Cave Hill is thought to have inspired Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, with the hill’s outline read as a sleeping giant watching over Belfast. It rises to 368 metres, and one cliff on it is nicknamed Napoleon’s Nose. Figo prefers to think of himself as a very small guard of a very large giant.

Belfast has more of our guides than most Northern Irish areas: sitters, groomers, rescue, swimming and pet transport. Trainers and vets are the gaps, and those lines go to UK-wide guides.

What’s covered in Belfast

Belfast dog rules

Belfast City Council says dogs must be kept on a lead in public places in the city, including parks, and kept away from areas where wild birds live. You can have no more than four dogs under your control at once, and you must pick up and bin their mess, with an £80 fixed penalty for not doing so. A yellow ribbon or bandana on a dog’s lead means it is uncomfortable near other dogs, so give it space. Rules can change, so check the council’s dog pages before you go.

A supplement option from Calmshops

If you’re weighing up a supplement for your dog, the Calmdogs probiotic chews are one to look at. Your vet can tell you whether it’s worth adding.
