Derry’s city walls were built between 1613 and 1619 and run for about a mile around the centre. They have never been breached, which is how Derry earned the nickname the Maiden City. You can walk the whole circuit, past 22 cannons.
Our coverage of Derry and Strabane is thin. We have Derry/Londonderry pages for dog sitters and groomers, and nothing yet for Strabane. Every other line below goes to a UK-wide page.

Before you walk the walls
We couldn’t find a clear dog policy for the walls or for Derry and Strabane’s parks, so look for signs and check with Derry City and Strabane District Council. Keep your dog on a short lead in busy spots, and in the countryside around Strabane stay away from sheep and other livestock. Always pick up after your dog.
Busy streets and crowds
Busy streets and crowds on the walls can be a lot for some dogs. The Calmdogs calming collar is one option at Calmshops, to use alongside training. Ask your vet if your dog’s reactions concern you.
