Cambridgeshire is famously flat, which makes the big skies easy to enjoy and a dog’s mid-walk sprint easy to follow. At Wicken Fen, one of the best-known spots in the county, Konik ponies and Highland cattle graze Adventurers’ Fen, and dogs under close control are welcome on the reserve paths. It’s a good place to learn what your dog does when something large and calm stands in the way.
Trainers, vets and swimming spots each have a Cambridgeshire page, and both Cambridge and Peterborough have sitters and groomers pages of their own. Rescue is covered by our wider East Anglia round-up, and pet transport goes to the UK-wide guide because there’s no Cambridgeshire city page. It’s a way into our directories, not a complete list of local services.

Fen walking and the car boot
Wicken Fen’s rules are worth knowing before you set off. Dogs under close control are welcome on the main reserve, but Sedge Fen is for assistance dogs only, and you’ll find grazing ponies and cattle on Adventurers’ Fen, so keep your dog away from them.
Fen roads are flat but can be narrow and straight, with ditches either side, so be careful when you park. Water is plentiful in the fens, but ditches and drains aren’t safe for swimming, so check our swimming guide before letting a dog in.
Busy car parks
Popular fen car parks and nature reserves can be busy with other dogs. The Calmdogs calming collar at Calmshops is a complementary option alongside training. It won’t suit every dog, and if your dog struggles with travel or crowds, your vet or a trainer is the right call.

Written by Georgiana & Figo. Fen paths look straight for miles, which is no reason to forget the lead near the cattle.
