The tea-room at Carding Mill Valley is dog-friendly, with water bowls at the front and inside, which is a good way to end a walk on the Long Mynd. The National Trust asks owners to keep dogs under close control, ideally on a lead, and to carry a lead for livestock or wildlife. The seasons matter: lambing runs from March to May, when it asks for leads, and ground-nesting birds such as grouse and curlew breed from March to July, when it asks for dogs to be on a lead and on the paths.
Shropshire has county pages for trainers, vets and swimming spots. Sitters, groomers, rescue and pet transport link to the UK-wide guides.

Hill days and tea-room manners
A tea-room visit goes best with a settled dog, so give them a walk first and a mat or blanket to lie on. Use a short lead around sheep, since chasing alone can harm them. Pack a towel and an extra layer, as weather on the hills changes fast. Follow any local signs, which may show diverted paths or off-lead areas.
A daily extra for hill dogs
Hill walking is hungry work for a dog. The Calmdogs 8-in-1 multivitamin chews at Calmshops are one supplement to consider. Check with your vet whether your dog needs one.
