Thetford Forest sits on the Suffolk and Norfolk border, and Forestry England calls it the largest lowland man-made forest in England. It was first planted in the 1920s to rebuild the nation’s timber supply after the First World War. For a dog that means pine, sandy tracks and a lot of ground to cover. Rules can differ from one car park to the next, so Figo’s advice is to read the signs before anyone comes off the lead.
Three of our guides have a Suffolk page: trainers, vets and swimming spots. Rescue is covered by our East Anglia round-up. Sitters, groomers and pet transport don’t have a Suffolk page yet, so they point to the UK-wide guides.

Long forest walks
Forest tracks can look identical after twenty minutes, so make a note of your car park and carry more water than you think you’ll need. If you’re planning a long loop, check the forest’s own signs for where dogs need to be on a lead, particularly around livestock or events.
Busy forest days
Popular forest loops can be crowded with other dogs and families. If that’s a regular problem for yours, Calmshops has the Calmdogs calming collar to look at alongside training. It isn’t a substitute for professional help, so ask your vet if you’re concerned about your dog’s behaviour.
