Suffolk is a lovely county to stay in with a dog, and the verified options cluster on the coast: Aldeburgh, Dunwich and Westleton, plus Woodbridge and Elveden Forest. We’ve only called a place confirmed where its own website states a dog policy, and we’ve said so plainly where a fee or limit wasn’t published.
Hotels and pubs with rooms: policies we could read
Seckford Hall Hotel & Spa, Woodbridge IP13 6NU, charges £20 per room for dogs, who are accepted in Deluxe and Junior Suites in the Courtyard Rooms only. Dogs must be on a lead outside the room and in the gardens, mustn’t sleep on beds or furniture and can’t swim in the lake. They aren’t allowed in the spa, pool or 1530 Restaurant, but are welcome in the Lounge, Lounge Bar, Terrace and Garden Room.
The Wentworth Hotel, Aldeburgh IP15 5BD, charges £6 per dog per night. Tell the hotel when you book, keep your dog off the furniture and note that dogs aren’t allowed in the restaurant. The page we read gives no dog limit, and full terms sit on a separate page.

The Ship at Dunwich, IP17 3DT, adds £25 for dogs staying overnight in most rooms (the page doesn’t say per night or per stay, so ask). Not every room takes dogs, and dogs are welcome in most areas of the pub. The Westleton Crown, IP17 3AD, says dogs are welcome and offers a “Muddy Paws” package with a bed, towel, treats and a sausage breakfast for the dog. No fee or limit is stated, so call on 01728 648777. The Bull Hotel in Long Melford (Greene King), CO10 9JG, says dogs are allowed in standard hotel bedrooms, with no fee or limit stated.
Center Parcs Elveden Forest
Center Parcs’ own help page says dogs cost £129 per stay for one or two dogs, with a maximum of two, and only in dog-friendly lodges. Dogs must be on a lead outside the lodge and have up-to-date annual vaccinations, and day visitors can’t bring dogs. Dog-friendly venues at Elveden include the Foresters’ Inn restaurant and terrace, plus terraces at Starbucks and the Pancake House. The village sits on the Suffolk side of the Norfolk border with a Brandon or Thetford postal address, so use the full postcode, IP24 3TR, when comparing listings.
Cottage agencies
Canine Cottages says every Suffolk cottage it lists accepts at least one dog, with most listings showing one or two and the search filter going up to six. Its Suffolk page showed 555 properties when we looked, with the pet fee not stated. Suffolk Secrets, based in Southwold, says over half of its cottages are dog-friendly, many with welcome packs; check fee and numbers per property.
Chains: check the branch
Travelodge’s pet page says pets are welcome in standard rooms and SuperRooms, with a per-pet cleaning charge payable at booking and assistance dogs exempt. It didn’t list individual Suffolk hotels or give the amount, so we’re not naming branches. We couldn’t load Premier Inn’s own pet policy this round, so please check it before booking rather than rely on us.
Needs a direct check
The Greene King Cock & Bell (Long Melford) and Golf Hotel (Rushmere, Ipswich) describe themselves as dog friendly, but their pages don’t mention rooms, so ring ahead (Golf Hotel: 01473 727 450). The Swan at Southwold (01502 722186) and other Adnams rooms such as The Crown, The Bell at Walberswick, The Five Bells at Wrentham and The Cross Keys at Aldeburgh had no dog policy we could read. The Brudenell in Aldeburgh turns up on dog-friendly aggregators but we couldn’t read its own site. Campsites and glamping sites are widely listed on booking platforms, and we haven’t checked individual operators.
Genuine gaps
We couldn’t confirm an operator-stated dog policy for hotels in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Lowestoft, Felixstowe, Newmarket, Stowmarket, Haverhill or Beccles this round, and nothing confirmed in Southwold town itself beyond the cottage agencies. Several hotel websites blocked our checks, so this reflects what we could verify, not proof that nothing is there.
A new room, new smells and a long day out can unsettle a nervier dog. A calming bite before you travel can help take the edge off the first night away. If your dog is regularly anxious away from home, that is worth a word with your vet.
