The county is more wooded and hilly than most people expect, with the Surrey Hills, heathland and commons all within reach of the commuter towns, so even a lunchtime lead-lap can feel like a proper outing.

Hills, heath and busy weekends
Popular Surrey spots such as Box Hill get very crowded on fine weekends, and the car parks fill early. If your dog gets overexcited around lots of people and other dogs, a weekday morning will be far easier on both of you.
Heathland and common land often have ground-nesting birds in spring and early summer, and some areas ask for dogs on leads at those times. Livestock also graze some of the open land. Follow the local signs, and carry water, since streams and ponds aren’t always where you’d like them to be.
