Dog-Friendly Accommodation in Surrey

Dog indoors in a bright, dog-friendly room

Surrey’s confirmed dog-friendly stays lean towards country house and Guildford-area hotels. We’ve called a place verified only where its own website states a dog policy, and we’ve said plainly where a fee or limit wasn’t clear.

Hotels with a stated dog policy

Pennyhill Park Hotel & Spa, Bagshot GU19 5EU, has 12 dog-friendly rooms at £40 per stay, which includes a dog bed, towel, bowl and treat. Dogs aren’t allowed in the restaurants but are welcome in the Drawing Room, the Hillfield Bar and, in summer, the Lily Pond Terrace. The page gives no limit on dogs per room.

The Mandolay Hotel, London Road, Guildford GU1 2AE, charges £25 per night, flat, for one or two dogs, with a maximum of two in the dog-friendly rooms. It says small and medium well-behaved dogs up to 25kg, only certain room types, and leads in shared areas. Dogs aren’t allowed in The Grill restaurant but can use Bar 36. A near-identical policy applies at Worplesdon Place Hotel, Perry Hill, Worplesdon GU3 3RY, uses almost identical wording: £25 per night, up to two dogs, on a lead in shared areas, never unsupervised and off the beds.

Dog relaxing on a bed in dog-friendly accommodation

Barnett Hill Hotel, Blackheath Lane, Guildford GU5 0RF, charges £20 per day and says small and medium dogs are more than welcome. Dogs can use the terraces, gardens and the 1905 Bar, but not the Library or Oak Room. Beaverbrook, Leatherhead KT22 8QX, says all Coach House rooms and selected Garden House and Village rooms take dogs, with a lead required and notice given in advance; dogs aren’t allowed in The House or the Spa. Its page quotes £50 per dog per night in the text but says pets stay free in its summary, so please confirm the fee directly.

Travelodge and a name to cross off

Travelodge’s pet page says pets are welcome in every room, SuperRooms included, with a per-pet cleaning charge payable at booking and assistance dogs exempt. The amount isn’t stated and the page names no individual hotels, so check the branch you want. The Runnymede on Thames in Egham, which turns up on some dog-friendly lists, now says on Warner Hotels’ own page that it doesn’t allow dogs except service dogs, so we’ve left it out.

Needs a direct check

The Merry Harriers at Hambledon is described by one accommodation site as taking dogs in its Garden Rooms and shepherd’s huts but not the main inn rooms, so check with the pub. The Swan Inn at Chiddingfold lists “dog friendly” as a facility without saying whether rooms take dogs. The Richard Onslow in Cranleigh (01483 274922) and Foxhills at Ottershaw (01932 872050) had no pet policy on their own pages. Hilton Cobham, Great Fosters and the Chertsey Camping and Caravanning Club appear on dog-friendly lists, but we couldn’t read their own policies. We also couldn’t load Premier Inn’s pet policy this round, so please check it before booking.

Gaps and border cases

We didn’t confirm anything for Best Western, Hotel du Vin, Surrey Hills B&Bs, glamping sites or cottage agencies, and we didn’t check the Gatwick-side hotels at Horley. Greater London places such as Carshalton and Chessington are sometimes labelled Surrey on listings; they aren’t in the county, so we’ve left them out.

A new room and a long day out can unsettle a nervier dog. A calming bite before you travel can help take the edge off the first night away. If your dog is regularly anxious away from home, that is worth a word with your vet.
