Snowdon, or Yr Wyddfa, is 1,085 metres high and the highest mountain in Wales. The Snowdon Mountain Railway has been running up its flank since 1896, and its summit station sits about 21 metres below the top.
Plenty of people take dogs up there, so this page leans on practical notes. As for what we’ve built for Gwynedd so far, it’s a local dog trainers directory and nothing more; the other lines below route to UK-wide guides.

Snowdon with a dog
The independent site snowdoninfo.com says well-mannered dogs are welcome on the mountain. It calls the Llanberis Path generally the most manageable route for dogs and owners, says the stepped sections of the Pyg Track can be hard for short-legged dogs, and advises against taking a dog on Crib Goch, where there have been accidents, some fatal. It also notes there’s little or no shade, and streams lower down often run dry in summer, so carry plenty of water for your dog. Check the Snowdonia National Park Authority’s own advice before you go, and speak to your vet if you’re unsure whether your dog is fit enough for a big day out.
A daily extra for mountain dogs
Rocky ground and long climbs make for active dogs. Calmshops stocks Calmdogs 8-in-1 multivitamin chews, if you’re weighing up a daily supplement. Your vet can tell you whether your dog needs one.
