Dog-Friendly Accommodation in Gwynedd: Hotels, Camping & Holiday Parks

A dog lying comfortably on a hotel bed, illustrating dog-friendly accommodation in Manchester

Gwynedd covers Eryri (Snowdonia), the Llŷn Peninsula coast and the towns around Bangor and Caernarfon, so there’s a huge range of dog-friendly stays here in theory. In practice, chain hotel coverage is essentially non-existent, and a lot of what’s out there rests on a single source rather than a confirmed, detailed policy — we’ve been upfront about that below rather than smoothing it over.

Chain hotels

We checked Premier Inn, Travelodge, Holiday Inn Express and Accor brands directly on their own sites. None of them currently operate a confirmed, live branch in Gwynedd — several “Gwynedd” results that come up in search are actually Bangor, Northern Ireland or Bangor, Maine, not Bangor, Gwynedd. A Premier Inn was reported under construction in Porthmadog back in 2022, but we couldn’t confirm it’s open or find its current pet policy, so we’ve left it out until that’s verified.

Porthmadog

  • Greenacres Holiday Park (Haven), Black Rock Sands, Morfa Bychan, Porthmadog, LL49 9YF — confirmed dog-friendly directly on Haven’s own site, including a dog-friendly beach, restaurant terrace and a designated indoor dog space. No fee stated on the page; check which caravan grades allow dogs when you book.

Caernarfon

  • Plas Dinas Country House, Bontnewydd, Caernarfon, LL54 7YF — the hotel’s own site states well-behaved dogs are welcome at no extra charge, including in the self-catering cottages.
  • Bryn Gloch Caravan & Camping Park, Betws Garmon, Caernarfon, LL54 7YY, and Rhyd y Galen and Dinlle Caravan Park, both near Caernarfon — all describe themselves as pet-friendly, but none gave us a specific fee or lead rule on the page we could reach, so treat these as “accepts dogs by arrangement” rather than fully detailed, and confirm by phone.

Tywyn and Trawsfynydd

  • Cae Du Campsite, Rhoslefain, Tywyn, LL36 9ND — dogs welcomed for £1 a night, must be on a lead on site. One of the few places with a precise fee and rule, though it rests on one tourism-board source, so we’d double-check it’s still current.
  • Old Mill Farmhouse, Fron Oleu Farm, Trawsfynydd, LL41 4UN — pets welcome in 5 of its 7 rooms, by arrangement. Worth knowing precisely, since it’s not whole-building dog-friendly.

Llŷn Peninsula, Dolgellau and Barmouth

  • Deucoch Touring & Camping Park, near Abersoch, and Eisteddfa Caravan & Camping Park, Pentrefelin, Criccieth, LL52 0PT — both have some dog-related indication on their booking pages, but neither states a clear fee or rule on the main site; ring ahead before assuming either accepts dogs without restriction.
  • Hendre Mynach Caravan & Camping Park, Llanaber Road, Barmouth, LL42 1YR, and Trawsdir Touring Caravans & Camping, Llanaber, Barmouth, LL42 1RR — both describe themselves as dog-friendly without a stated fee or lead rule on the main page; call to confirm specifics.
  • Hafan y Môr Holiday Park (Haven), Pwllheli, LL53 6HX — covered by Haven’s general brand policy of allowing dogs in designated units, but we couldn’t load this park’s own page to confirm the detail, so check haven.com directly before booking.

Honest gaps: we found no verified dog-friendly accommodation at all in Bangor or Bala — not even a weak single-sourced lead cleared our bar for either town. Harlech’s main lead (“Y Branwen Hotel”) turned up repeatedly on booking sites but we couldn’t confirm its actual address or that it’s genuinely in Harlech, so we’ve left it out rather than risk sending you to the wrong town.

A new holiday park or caravan pitch is exciting but overwhelming for a dog — new smells, a new routine, often a long drive to get there. We give Figo Calmdogs calming bites on travel days, alongside his normal routine, not instead of it. If your dog struggles badly with new places, that’s worth a word with your vet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a Premier Inn or Travelodge in Gwynedd?

Not currently confirmed. Neither chain’s own website lists a live, operating branch in Gwynedd as of our research — some search results that look like a Gwynedd match are actually Bangor, Northern Ireland or Bangor, Maine.

Which Gwynedd holiday park is the most clearly dog-friendly?

Greenacres Holiday Park in Porthmadog, confirmed directly on Haven’s own site with a dog-friendly beach and a designated indoor dog space in the restaurant.

Is there dog-friendly accommodation in Bangor or Bala?

We couldn’t verify any for either town. That’s a genuine gap in our research rather than an oversight — worth checking directly with individual B&Bs if you’re set on staying in either place.
