Even the hotel at High Force welcomes dogs. The Raby estate’s visitor FAQ says dogs are welcome at the waterfall and in the hotel, on leads to protect sensitive plants and wildlife, with extra care needed near the car park because livestock graze the adjoining fields. High Force is on Alston Road at Forest-in-Teesdale, near Barnard Castle, in County Durham.
County Durham has its own pages for trainers, vets and swimming spots. Sitters, groomers, rescue and pet transport link to the UK-wide guides, because we haven’t built Durham versions yet.

Waterfall walks and wet ground
Paths near waterfalls are often damp and uneven, and spray makes rock slippery. Keep your dog on a short lead near the edge and wear boots with proper grip. Upland weather can turn quickly, so pack a towel and a spare layer.
A daily extra before the hills
Upland walking makes for fit, active dogs. Calmshops has a dog vitamins and supplements collection for everyday extras, and your vet is the right person to ask what suits your dog. Our County Durham trainers page is the next step for recall help.
