Dog Services in West Sussex: Trainers, Vets, Swimming Spots & More

Golden retriever on a beach shore

West Wittering splits its beach by season. The West Wittering Estate bans dogs from the main swimming beach, between groynes 14a and 18 in front of the beach huts, from May to mid-September. This year the ban ran to 14 September, and the estate says dates can vary from year to year. Everywhere else on the beach, dogs are welcome all year round.

West Sussex has its own trainers page. For vets and swimming spots we use the Sussex-wide guides that West Sussex shares with East Sussex. Sitters, groomers, rescue and pet transport link to the UK-wide guides.

What’s covered in West Sussex

Beach days, sorted

Take fresh water for the beach and find a shady spot for your dog out of the midday sun. Rinse sand and salt from the coat and paws afterwards. If a beach has seasonal restrictions, check the current dates before you go, as they can change from year to year.

Busy beach days

Crowded beaches and full car parks are a lot for some dogs. The Calmdogs calming bites from Calmshops are a complementary feed, so they sit alongside training rather than replacing it. Worried about your dog’s behaviour? Speak to your vet before trying anything new.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dogs allowed on West Wittering Beach?

Dogs are banned from the main swimming beach, groynes 14a to 18, from May to mid-September, and allowed on the rest of the beach all year. The estate says dates can vary, so check its website before you go.

Does AboutDogs have West Sussex dog sitter and groomer pages?

Not yet. For those we link to our UK-wide sitters directory and groomers guide rather than imply local coverage we don’t have.

Where do I find West Sussex vets and swimming spots?

Our vets guide and swimming guide both cover Sussex as a whole, and both are linked above.
