Dog Services in Wiltshire: Trainers, Vets, Swimming Spots & More

Golden retriever on a green grass field

Avebury is one of the few places where you can walk a dog through a stone circle with sheep for company. The National Trust welcomes dogs across its land there, except inside Avebury Manor and Circles Café, which admit assistance dogs only. Dogs need to be under close control, on a short lead around sheep, and on a short fixed lead in the Manor garden, car park, farmyard, museum and shop.

Wiltshire has county pages for trainers, vets and swimming spots, and the South West rescue round-up covers adoption. Sitters, groomers and pet transport link to UK-wide guides.

What’s covered in Wiltshire

Livestock among the stones

Take extra care in the stone circles, the henge and West Kennet Avenue when sheep or cattle are grazing. If cattle approach, the National Trust’s advice is to let your dog off the lead and call it back once it’s safe. Carry a lead even where it isn’t required, so you can use it the moment livestock or wildlife appear.

For dogs who find crowds a lot

Some dogs find visitor hotspots overwhelming. The Calmdogs calming collar at Calmshops is there if you’d like to explore options. If your dog’s worry is significant, speak to your vet first.
