Windsor Great Park is a lovely place to spend a morning with a dog. The park’s own guidance says well-behaved dogs are welcome in the park and forest, but some areas, including the Deer Park, are on-lead only, so it pays to look at the park map before you set off. Figo would happily ignore every sign and head straight for the nearest smell, which is exactly why we keep a lead in the bag.
Berkshire is more than one park, of course, with river walks, village greens and a good spread of towns, but our guides don’t match all of it yet. What exists: a trainers page, a vets guide and a swimming guide. What doesn’t: sitters, groomers, rescue and pet transport, which link to UK-wide guides instead. You’ll find each one marked below.
What’s covered in Berkshire
- Dog trainers: Dog trainers in Berkshire
- Vets: Best vets in Berkshire
- Dog swimming spots: Dog swimming spots in Berkshire
- Dog sitters: no Berkshire town has its own sitters page yet, so please use our UK dog sitters directory.
- Dog groomers: likewise, no local page yet. The UK dog groomers guide is the place to look.
- Adoption and rescue: we don’t have a Berkshire guide, so see our UK-wide dog adoption and rescue guide.
- Pet transport: no Berkshire city page, so see our UK pet transport guide.
Big parks, clear rules
Large estates tend to mix on-lead and off-lead zones, and the rules can differ from one corner to the next. Read the signs, check the park’s own website for the latest, and keep your dog within sight and under control. If your dog doesn’t come back at the first call, a lead or long line is the kinder choice for everyone, including the wildlife.
Dogs aren’t allowed in every part of Windsor Great Park either, as some gardens, play areas and indoor spots are off-limits, so plan the day around where you can all go together.
Busy car parks and new places
Crowded car parks and new places can unsettle some dogs. If yours finds that tricky, Calmdogs Calming Bites at Calmshops are one option to look at. If anxiety is a real worry, speak to your vet first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I find Berkshire dog sitters on AboutDogs?
Not at county or town level yet. We link to our UK-wide sitters directory and groomers guide rather than imply local coverage we don’t have.
Are dogs allowed in Windsor Great Park?
Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the park and forest, but some areas such as the Deer Park are on-lead only, and a few places, including the gardens and play areas, are not open to dogs. Check the park’s own guidance before you go.
Is there a Berkshire dog swimming guide?
Yes, it’s linked above. Rules can change, so check each venue’s signs or website before you let your dog in the water.
