Merseyside’s dog-friendly accommodation is real but patchy — Liverpool and Southport carry most of the genuine finds, while Wirral and the outer boroughs are a near-total gap. Premier Inn is excluded countywide as usual, since no branch overrides the chain’s standard assistance-dogs-only policy.
Liverpool
- Aloft Liverpool, No.1 North John Street, L2 2DP — dogs welcome, up to 40lb, 1 pet per room, pet-friendly rooms on the lower ground level. No fee published — call 0151 294 3970 to confirm.
- Britannia Adelphi Hotel, Ranelagh Place, L3 5UL — dogs and cats, 1 pet limit, £10/pet/stay up to a maximum £25/stay.
- Liverpool Aigburth Hotel (Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western), 3 Aigburth Drive, L17 3AA — in Aigburth, south of the city centre rather than in it. “Pets allowed” with an unexplained asterisk on the listing; fee, limit and eligible rooms aren’t published — worth a call before booking.
We checked and excluded several well-known Liverpool hotels that don’t actually allow dogs: Titanic Hotel (assistance dogs only), Hope Street Hotel (no pet policy published — a gap, not a confirmed no), 30 James Street and Pullman Liverpool (both confirmed pets not allowed), and Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa (also confirmed not pet-friendly, and in any case in Formby rather than Liverpool itself). We also looked at the Urbanista Hotel on Bold Street, which had old press about a planned dog crèche, but its ownership and current policy couldn’t be verified — left out rather than risk a stale listing.
Wallasey & New Brighton
The New Brighton Hotel, 93 Victoria Road, Wallasey, CH45 2JB — dogs only, pets stay free. Number of pets and room restrictions aren’t published. The Grove House Hotel, also in Wallasey, is confirmed not pet-friendly and excluded.
Hoylake
Holiday Inn Express Hoylake, The Kings Gap, CH47 1HE — small to medium dogs accepted, £10/night, must notify at booking for a ground-floor room; dogs excluded from the restaurant and the “Great Room.” We couldn’t find a verified option for West Kirby itself — this Hoylake listing is the nearest.
Two well-known Wirral country-house hotels, Thornton Hall and Hillbark, are sometimes mislabelled “Cheshire” online despite genuinely sitting within Wirral — but both are confirmed not pet-friendly, so they’re excluded for that reason rather than any geography issue. Leasowe Castle Hotel’s pet policy couldn’t be confirmed either way.
Southport
- Royal Clifton Hotel & Spa (Britannia Hotels), Promenade, PR8 1RB — up to 2 pets per room, from £10/pet for one night, from £25/pet for 2+ nights (a refundable deposit may apply). Dogs must stay on a lead in public areas and aren’t allowed in the dining areas; bring your own bedding and supplies.
- Bliss Hotel Southport (Waterfront Southport Hotel), Marine Lake, PR9 0DZ — dogs allowed, with food and water bowls provided. Fee, pet limit and eligible rooms aren’t published anywhere we could find.
- Southport Caravan Club Site (Caravan and Motorhome Club), The Esplanade, PR8 1RX — dogs welcome, with a dog walk from the site. Full dog-specific rules aren’t published online — call 01704 565214 to confirm.
One Southport option is worth a specific caution: Willowbank Holiday Home & Touring Park in Ainsdale has genuinely conflicting information on its own booking page — the rules section says dogs are allowed all year, but the FAQ on the same page answers “no” to whether the park is dog-friendly. We’ve left it out pending a direct call to resolve that contradiction. The Scarisbrick Hotel and The Vincent Hotel’s policies are unconfirmed either way, and the Ambassador Townhouse is confirmed not pet-friendly.
Genuine gaps
We couldn’t verify any dog-friendly accommodation in Birkenhead, Crosby, Formby, Bootle, or anywhere in St Helens, Huyton, Prescot or Kirkby. These are genuine gaps rather than oversights — several obvious candidates (the Royal Hotel in Waterloo, OYO Lakeside Haydock in St Helens) came back with an explicit “pets not allowed” policy when checked directly.

A new room is a lot of new smells to process, especially after a long day on the sand at Formby or Crosby. A calming bite before you travel can help take the edge off that first evening somewhere new. If the unsettled behaviour doesn’t ease once they’re used to a place, that’s worth a word with your vet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where’s best for dog-friendly accommodation in Merseyside?
Southport and Liverpool both have a reasonable spread of confirmed options. The Royal Clifton Hotel & Spa in Southport is the most detailed published policy of the batch.
Is there dog-friendly accommodation in Birkenhead?
We couldn’t verify any — a genuine gap for the town.
Is Premier Inn in Merseyside dog-friendly?
Not as standard. No Merseyside branch overrides the chain’s usual assistance-dogs-only policy, so we haven’t listed any Premier Inn here.
