The Vale of Glamorgan is short on big-name dog-friendly hotels but has a decent spread of campsites, farm cottages and country stays. We found no dog fee published for any of them, so please ask about charges and dog limits when you book. Where the evidence is the Vale’s tourism scheme rather than the operator’s own site, we’ve said so.
Confirmed on the operator’s own site
Heritage Coast Campsite, Monknash, near Cowbridge CF71 7QQ (01656 890399), calls itself “adults only and dog friendly”. It doesn’t accept breeds listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act, and it has zero tolerance of late-night noise. No fee is stated.
Sealands Farm Cottages, St Brides Major, are listed as dog-friendly self-catering. The Byre and The Granary take up to two well-behaved dogs each and The Cwtch takes one. The operator’s address carries a CF32 postcode, which is a Bridgend-area code, but the Vale’s tourism listing places it in St Brides Major, so we’ve included it.

Fontygary Leisure Park, Rhoose CF62 3ZT (01446 710386), says “we are a dog-friendly venue” with designated areas for dog lovers. The Vale’s tourism site says dogs are welcome in selected caravans, so check which units take dogs when you book. Travelodge Cardiff Airport, Port Road, Rhoose CF62 3BA, lists “pet-friendly rooms available” on its hotel page, but we couldn’t confirm the fee or limits. Llanerch Vineyard, Hensol CF72 8GG (01443 222716), lists “Dog-Friendly Rooms” as a room category with no fee shown. Hensol is close to the Rhondda Cynon Taf border.
Listed as dog-friendly by Visit the Vale: ring first
Visit the Vale, the area’s tourism site, runs a “Paws in the Vales” badge and marks these as accepting pets. We couldn’t find a dog policy on the operators’ own sites, and the pages are undated, so treat them as good leads: The Bear Hotel in Cowbridge, West House in Llantwit Major, The Fox and Hounds in Llancarfan, Happy Jakes at Flemingston, New Farm near Barry, Llandow Caravan Park, Orchard Lodge near Cowbridge, Duffryn Mawr Cottages near Pendoylan and May Tree Cottage, where dogs come by arrangement and a stable has been converted to a heated kennel. A hotel guide says West House’s dog-friendly rooms take up to two pets, but that is a secondary source.
Where dogs aren’t welcome, and what we couldn’t confirm
IHG’s own page says pets are not allowed at Holiday Inn Express Cardiff Airport. We couldn’t confirm Premier Inn’s pet policy, so we haven’t listed its Vale hotels. The Best Western Premier Heronston is at Ewenny, which is Bridgend, so it’s covered in our Bridgend guide instead.
We found no confirmed dog-friendly stay in Penarth, Dinas Powys, Sully, Wenvoe or Peterston-super-Ely. That is a limit of what we could verify, not proof there is nothing, and Penarth hotels such as the Glendale and Beachcliff were not checked.
A new room and a long drive can unsettle a nervier dog. A calming bite before you travel can help take the edge off the first night away, and if your dog is regularly anxious away from home, speak to your vet.
