Figo’s definition of a good pub is simple: somewhere with a water bowl, a bit of floor to stretch out on, and nobody minding if he sighs loudly during the starters. Dorset does well by that standard — we found 25 venues across the county with a genuinely confirmed dog-friendly policy, mostly from CAMRA’s own “Dog Friendly” pub tag or the Dorset Dogs directory, the official local dog-welfare partnership.

Where coverage is thinner
Lyme Regis is our weakest spot in this round — we found general “dog-friendly area” buzz but no pub or restaurant with its own stated policy, so we’ve left it off rather than guess. The same goes for rural Jurassic Coast villages like Seatown, Burton Bradstock and West Bexington, where the beaches are famously dog-friendly but the pubs haven’t confirmed their own policy in writing yet. If you know of one, let us know and we’ll check it out.
Heading out for the day? A decent calming collar can take the edge off a busy beer garden for a dog who finds new places and new dogs a bit much — alongside, not instead of, proper training if it’s a bigger issue.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there dog-friendly pubs in Lyme Regis?
Possibly, but in our last research pass we couldn’t verify a specific pub or restaurant’s own stated dog policy there, so we’ve left Lyme Regis off this list rather than guess. Check with the venue directly.
Can I take my dog into the Wishing Well tearoom in Upwey?
Dogs are confirmed welcome to walk the Wishing Well’s ornamental gardens. We couldn’t confirm whether dogs are allowed inside the tearoom itself, so ask when you arrive.
Do Dorset pubs let dogs off the lead inside?
Most ask for dogs to stay leashed in the bar even where they’re welcome, both for other customers’ comfort and so your dog isn’t tempted by someone’s chips. Check each venue’s own rules when you arrive.
