Dog-Friendly Pubs, Cafés & Restaurants in Lancashire

Our main source here is CAMRA’s own pub database, which tags dog-friendliness as a genuine facility rather than marketing copy. We checked pub by pub across every town on our list. Blackburn turned out to be the weakest spot in the whole county — nearly every candidate pub there is closed. Cafés and restaurants are thinner everywhere except Preston, which has an official tourism-board list worth knowing about.

Preston

  • Wellington, 40 Glovers Court, PR1 3LS — CAMRA dog-friendly tag, garden, family friendly.
  • Dog & Partridge (Old Dog & Partridge), 44 Friargate, PR1 2AT — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Argento Lounge, Unit 2 Animate, Tenterfield Street, PR1 2ES — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.

Preston is also the one town in this guide with a genuine café lead: Visit Preston, the official destination-marketing site, runs a “dog-friendly cafés” page naming Brucciani’s, Caffè Nero (Fishergate and Friargate), Cafuné, Pavilion Café, Rise Coffee Shop, Rosemary on the Park, Tea House and Town House Coffee and Brew Bar. Only Rosemary on the Park has explicit confirming wording on the council’s list, and Rise Coffee Shop is separately confirmed by a local news piece as having opened specifically as a dog-friendly site — the rest are worth a quick check before you rely on them.

One trap caught: a “Cock & Bell, Preston” on CAMRA’s database actually carries an HU12 postcode — that’s Preston village near Hull, East Yorkshire, not Preston, Lancashire.

Blackpool

  • Pump & Truncheon, 13 Bonny Street, FY1 5AR — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Saddle Inn, 286 Whitegate Drive, FY3 9PH — CAMRA dog-friendly tag, garden, family friendly.

Three closures caught here: the Yeadon Way Brewers Fayre (now hotel-residents-only), the Star on the Promenade (demolished, a hotel now stands on the site) and the Royal Hotel on Marton Drive (now a Tesco Express).

Blackburn

A genuine gap, and the weakest town in this guide. We checked over ten Blackburn pubs on CAMRA — every single candidate with a promising name or history is flagged permanently or long-term closed, and none of the pubs still trading in the town centre carry a dog-friendly tag. One marginal find: Black Bull, Brokenstone Road, BB3 0LL, is open and CAMRA-tagged dog-friendly, but it’s on the Darwen side of the borough rather than central Blackburn. The “Dog Inn” on Revidge Road, despite the name, has been permanently closed since 2006.

Burnley

  • Bridge Bier Huis, 2 Bank Parade, BB11 1UH — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Inn The Dog House, 61 Bank Parade, BB11 1UG — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Craven Heifer, 376 Briercliffe Road, BB10 2HA — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.

Lancaster & Morecambe

  • Wagon & Horses, 27 St George’s Quay, Lancaster, LA1 1RD — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • George & Dragon, 24 St George’s Quay, Lancaster, LA1 1RB — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Accidental Brewery & Micropub, The Old Stables, Bulk Street, Lancaster, LA1 1PU — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Pestle & Mortar, 283 Marine Road Central, Morecambe, LA4 5BY — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.

Worth flagging: the Dog & Partridge in Morecambe is open, but despite the promising name, it carries no dog-friendly tag on CAMRA — we haven’t listed it.

Fleetwood & Chorley

  • Three Lights, Herring Arm Road, Fleetwood, FY7 6NB — “dogs are welcome outside and in the bar area.”
  • Rossall Tavern, Larkholme Parade, Fleetwood, FY7 8RP — CAMRA dog-friendly tag, described as family and dog-friendly.
  • Steamer, 1-2 Queens Terrace, Fleetwood, FY7 6BT — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Calico Lounge, Market Walk Extension, Union St, Chorley, PR7 1DE — CAMRA dog-friendly tag, described as a “dog-friendly café bar.”
  • Inn the Dog House, 60 Chapel Street, Chorley, PR7 1BS — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.

The Mount Hotel on Fleetwood’s Esplanade has been closed long-term since fire damage in May 2023, with an ongoing insurance dispute — excluded.

Clitheroe, Ormskirk & Garstang

  • Castle, Station Road, Clitheroe, BB7 2JT — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Bowland Beer Hall, Greenacre Street, Clitheroe, BB7 1EB — CAMRA dog-friendly tag; phone 01200 401035 to check which areas allow dogs.
  • Queen Inn, 81 Aughton Street, Ormskirk, L39 3BN — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Tap Room No 12, 12 Burscough Street, Ormskirk, L39 2ER — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Royal Oak, Market Place, Garstang, PR3 1ZA — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Crown, High Street, Garstang, PR3 1FA — CAMRA dog-friendly tag, Cask Marque 5/5.

Skelmersdale & Leyland

Skelmersdale is a genuine gap: the one previously-tagged pub, the Village Inn, has been closed long-term since 2022, and the Busy Bee, though open, carries no dog policy on CAMRA. In Leyland, the Eagle & Child, 30 Church Lane, PR25 3AA, and the Stag, 3 Worden Lane, PR25 3EL, are both CAMRA dog-friendly tagged.

Accrington, Rawtenstall & Rossendale

  • Arden Inn, 81 Abbey Street, Accrington, BB5 1EH — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Black Horse Tavern, 58 Abbey Street, Accrington, BB5 1EE — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Park, 68 Manchester Road, Accrington, BB5 2BN — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Tiger Lounge, 119 Abbey Street, Accrington, BB5 1EH — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Boho Ale House & Music Bar, 63A Bank Street, Rawtenstall, BB4 7QN — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
  • Bees Knees, 20 Bacup Road, Rawtenstall, BB4 7ND — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.

Nelson & Colne

Shooters Arms, Southfield Lane, Nelson, BB10 3RJ, and Market Street Tavern, 8 Market Street, Colne, BB8 0HR, are both CAMRA dog-friendly tagged — thin coverage after excluding several closures (Clayton Arms and Hour Glass in Nelson; Langroyd Hall and Jolly Hatters in Colne) and name-collision traps: searches for “Nelson” and “Colne” pull in unrelated pubs as far afield as London, Urmston, Cambridgeshire and Derbyshire, all excluded.

Dog relaxing beside a table at a dog-friendly pub

A pub on a busy weekend is a lot of noise and new smells for some dogs to take in. Figo settles once he’s found his spot under the table, but a calming collar or treat can help take the edge off those first few minutes if yours needs it. If the anxiety doesn’t ease with familiarity, that’s worth raising with your vet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a dog-friendly pub in Blackburn?

Genuinely very little. Nearly every candidate pub in the town is closed, and the one open CAMRA-tagged option, the Black Bull, sits on the Darwen side of the borough rather than central Blackburn.

Is there a dog-friendly café in Lancashire?

Preston is the one real exception, with an official Visit Preston “dog-friendly cafés” list. Elsewhere in the county we couldn’t confirm a genuine dog-friendly café or restaurant.

Which Lancashire towns have the thinnest pub coverage?

Blackburn and Skelmersdale came back the weakest, both close to a genuine gap. Nelson and Colne are also thin, with only one confirmed pub each after excluding closures and name-collision traps.
