Dog Walkers in Somerset

Owner walking a dog along a park path

Somerset gives us a genuine, if concentrated, result this round: two independently verifiable dog walking businesses on our first pass, both with their own websites, clustered around Taunton and Bridgwater — with most of the rest of the county looking empty until a second look on Google Maps (below) turned up nine more.

Verified dog walking businesses

Emma4walkies, Taunton — established 2011, offering dog walking, house sitting and pet feeding, and stating on its own site that it’s fully insured; contact-only, no online booking. Somerset Dog Walking, Bridgwater and surrounding villages — the stronger of the two finds, with a live booking system (scheduling, invoicing and online or Direct Debit payment) and a free meet-and-greet offer, confirmed via its own currently-live site.

A licensing note

Somerset Council’s own licensing scheme covers boarding kennels, catteries and home boarding or day care provided at an operator’s own home, but doesn’t mention or license dog walking as a separate activity. That’s a genuine feature of the current regulations rather than a research gap, so don’t expect a licence number for a walker the way you might for a home boarder.

Everywhere else: thin on our first pass

On our first pass we found no independently verifiable dog walking business in Yeovil, Wells, Glastonbury, Street, Frome, Bruton, Shepton Mallet, Minehead, Burnham-on-Sea, Chard, Wincanton, Castle Cary or Dulverton. Frome is a particularly solid confirmation of this gap: the town council’s own curated “Dog Walkers, Sitters and Trainers” directory lists no pure dog-walking business at all, only a pet shop, a training club and a physio service — a council-sourced result, not an oversight on our part.

A regular walker is one of the best ways to keep a dog settled when a working day runs long. A calming bite can help take the edge off a walk with someone new for the first few times. If separation anxiety is the real issue rather than simply missing a walk, that’s worth a chat with your vet or a qualified trainer.

We haven’t tested any of them, Google ratings come from the public, and the listings rarely make the town clear, so ask where each walker operates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there professional dog walkers in Somerset?

Yes, though coverage is concentrated: Emma4walkies in Taunton and Somerset Dog Walking in Bridgwater are both independently verifiable, with their own websites.

Is there a dog walker in Frome?

We couldn’t find one — and Frome Town Council’s own directory confirms the same gap, listing no dedicated dog-walking business.

Do dog walkers need a licence in Somerset?

Not under Somerset Council’s current scheme — that licensing covers boarding and home day care, not dog walking itself.
