Secure Dog Fields in Cumbria: What We Could Verify

A dog running happily across an open grass field, illustrating a secure dog field in Manchester

We searched the whole of Cumbria for a genuine, bookable secure dog field — Carlisle, Kendal, Penrith, Keswick, Windermere, Barrow-in-Furness, Whitehaven, Workington, Cockermouth, Ulverston and the Eden Valley — and came back with just two candidates, both near Penrith, and both with real gaps in how independently we could confirm them. Our Cumbria hub page covers the rest of what’s confirmed for the county.

What we found

Happy Paws Park, Ullswater Holiday Park, Watermillock, Penrith

At CA11 0LR (Google Maps, operator’s own site), a fenced field of just over an acre with 6ft perimeter fencing, bookable in 50-minute exclusive-use slots (9am-5pm low season, 9am-8pm high season), up to 4 dogs per session. £10 for up to 2 dogs, £12 for 3, £13 for 4. We couldn’t confirm independently whether it’s genuinely open to visitors who aren’t staying at the holiday park, so it’s worth asking directly before you travel.

Furry Tails Enclosed Paddock, near Penrith

At CA10 1HA, around 10 minutes from Penrith (Google Maps), run by Furry Tails Kennels, which carries a 4.9-star Google rating from 65 reviews — though those reviews are for the kennels business generally, not confirmed to be specifically about the paddock. We couldn’t reach the operator’s own site to confirm the paddock’s size, fencing detail, price or booking method, so treat this one as the weaker of the two and confirm details by phone (01768 881838) before visiting.

Where this leaves most of the county

Beyond the Penrith/Eden Valley area, we couldn’t verify a secure dog field anywhere in Cumbria — not in Carlisle, Kendal, Keswick, Windermere, Barrow-in-Furness, Whitehaven, Workington, Cockermouth or Ulverston. If you do know of a genuine one operating elsewhere in the county, let us know and we’ll check it out and add it here. In the meantime, our Cumbria dog walks guide covers plenty of open space for a well-trained dog to run under control, and our Cumbria dog walkers guide is worth a look if recall is the reason you’re after a secure field.

For dogs that find new or unfamiliar spaces stressful, Calmshops’ calming collars and treats can help — always check with your vet first if your dog has any underlying health conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a secure dog field in Cumbria?

We found two candidates, both near Penrith — Happy Paws Park at Ullswater Holiday Park and Furry Tails Enclosed Paddock — but neither is independently confirmed beyond a single source, so check details directly before travelling. We couldn’t verify one anywhere else in the county.

Where can my dog run off-lead safely in Cumbria?

Our Cumbria dog walks guide covers open spaces suitable for a well-trained dog under control, while recall training is the best option if you want off-lead confidence without a fenced field.
