Secure Dog Fields in Tyne and Wear

Dog standing in an open grassy field

Tyne and Wear is thin on secure dog fields, and we would rather say so than pad the list. We could verify one bookable field, and a handful of other names are leads you will need to check yourself.

The field we could verify

Westmoor Walkies, West Moor, North Tyneside, has its own online booking page (booking.page/en/company/page/westmoorwalkies). It lists £6 per 30 minutes or £12 per hour, a maximum of four dogs and hours of 6am to 10pm, and describes the field as “secure”. We didn’t find a fence height. An aggregator gives the postcode as NE12 7NS, but we couldn’t confirm that, so check the address when you book.

Leads to check yourself

These appear on aggregators or Facebook, and we couldn’t confirm them from an operator’s own site. Golden Paws, Earsdon NE25 9TQ, is listed with a 4ft fence, £7 to £12 for up to two dogs and Facebook booking. QP-K9 in Hebburn (NE10 8YJ on an aggregator), Petsercise in Winlaton (NE21 4SZ, although the operator appears to be based in Durham and we couldn’t confirm hire), St James’ Bark (NE5 1PB) and Unleashed in Throckley (NE15 9JW) are also listed. Please confirm fencing, prices and availability before travelling.

What isn’t a hire field, and what’s out of area

Club Fetch Newcastle is a training business, not a field for hire, and public dog areas such as those at Saltwell Park, Laurel Park and Marsden aren’t bookable secure fields. Public parks in Cramlington and Prudhoe, and anything in Bedlington, are in Northumberland, so we’ve left them out. We found no hire field at all in Sunderland, Washington or Gateshead. That is a limit of what we could verify, not proof there is none.

A fenced field is a lovely option for a reactive or nervy dog. A calming bite can help take the edge off the journey there, and if reactivity is a regular issue, that is worth discussing with your vet or a qualified trainer.
