Dog-Friendly Accommodation in Buckinghamshire: Hotels, Pubs with Rooms and What We Couldn’t Confirm

A dog lying comfortably on a hotel bed, illustrating dog-friendly accommodation in Manchester

Buckinghamshire is an easy county to picture a dog-friendly weekend in — the Chiltern beech woods on one side, the Thames at Marlow on the other, and Milton Keynes’s lakes and linear parks up north. But when Figo and I actually went looking for places that confirm their own dog policy, rather than just appearing on a “dog-friendly” aggregator with no detail, the list got shorter fast.

Here’s what we could stand behind, and what we couldn’t — because a vague “pets welcome” badge on a booking site isn’t the same as knowing what you’re walking into.

Hotels and pub stays

Stoke Place, Stoke Poges

Stoke Place sits at Stoke Place, Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire, SL2 4HT (Google Maps, listing on PetsPyjamas), and takes dogs seriously enough to list it as a selling point. Through PetsPyjamas you won’t pay a dog fee, and up to two dogs per room are allowed. Garden and Gatehouse Rooms are flagged as the dog-friendly rooms, though some of the individual room listings (Standard Double, Junior Suite, Deluxe Double) are also marked dog-friendly, so it’s worth double-checking which room you’re actually booking. Dogs can join you in the bar, lounge and on the patio, and there’s a small pet menu plus bowls, bedding and treats provided.

The George and Dragon, Marlow

This is a Heartwood Inns pub with rooms at The Causeway, Marlow, SL7 2AA (Google Maps, official website), right by the Thames. No dog fee through PetsPyjamas, and a two-dogs-per-room limit. The Snug, Comfy, Comfy Family and Fancy rooms are the ones listed as dog-friendly, and dogs get a bed, water bowl and food bowl in the room, plus their own dog menu downstairs and a dog wash station on site — a nice touch if your dog’s been in the Thames. There’s no car parking at the pub itself, so plan for that if you’re driving.

What we couldn’t confirm

We looked specifically for self-catering cottages and campsites with a clearly stated dog policy in Buckinghamshire, and came up short. PetsPyjamas lists a handful of Chilterns properties, but most sit just over the county line in Oxfordshire or Hertfordshire rather than in Bucks itself. If you know of a genuinely dog-friendly cottage or campsite actually inside the county with its own stated dog policy, let us know and we’ll add it.

Whichever way you’re travelling, it’s worth packing a familiar bed and a few of your dog’s usual things so a new room feels less strange on the first night. We like the calming collars and treats at Calmshops for dogs who find new places unsettling — always check with your vet first if your dog has any underlying health conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there dog-friendly hotels in Buckinghamshire?

Yes. Stoke Place in Stoke Poges and The George and Dragon in Marlow both confirm a dog policy, including room limits and dog fees, through PetsPyjamas.

Are there dog-friendly cottages or campsites in Buckinghamshire?

We haven’t been able to confirm any self-catering cottages or campsites with a clearly stated dog policy actually inside the Buckinghamshire boundary. Most Chilterns options we found sit just over the county line.

Do these hotels charge a dog fee?

Not when booked through PetsPyjamas, according to both properties’ own listings. Always confirm directly with the hotel if booking another way.
