Cheshire’s a good base for a dog-friendly trip — Delamere Forest on your doorstep, the Sandstone Trail running the length of the county, and Chester’s riverside walks close by. Our Cheshire hub page and dog swimming spots guide cover plenty of what to do once you’re here. For somewhere to actually stay, Figo and I only wanted places with a specific, checkable dog policy — not a vague “pets welcome” badge on an aggregator page. Here’s what we could confirm.
Hotels and inns
The Pheasant Inn, Higher Burwardsley
At Higher Burwardsley, Tattenhall, Chester, Cheshire, CH3 9PF (Google Maps, the inn’s own dog-friendly page), dogs are welcome in bedrooms, the bar and the terrace. The site says a small additional charge per dog applies but doesn’t publish the amount — call 01829 770 434 to confirm the current rate before booking.
Hollin House Hotel & Restaurant, Bollington
At Jackson Lane, Bollington, Cheshire, SK10 5BG, near Macclesfield (Google Maps, PetsPyjamas listing), up to two dogs per room are welcome, with access to the hotel bar and drawing room. No charge applies when booked through PetsPyjamas specifically — we’d confirm the direct-booking fee by phone before relying on that.
Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa
At Wrexham Road, Pulford, Chester, Cheshire, CH4 9DG (Google Maps), all 75 bedrooms are described as dog-friendly, with dogs welcome in the Nelson’s bar and the landscaped gardens. Number of dogs and any fee aren’t published, so we’d ring ahead — 01244 570560 on the hotel’s listed number — before booking.
We checked Premier Inn, Travelodge and the main chain brands directly and found no branch-level dog policy published for any Cheshire location, so none of the chains make this list — that’s a standing rule across our guides, not a Cheshire-specific gap.
Camping, caravan & glamping
Wild Meadow Glamping, Crewe
At Off Middlewich Road, Minshull Vernon, Crewe, Cheshire, CW1 4RD (Google Maps, Pitchup listing), dogs are welcome year-round on a lead, with a dedicated dog exercise area on site. Numbers and fees aren’t published on the listing — worth a direct message to the operator before booking.
1 Fountain Cottages, Peckforton
Near Tarporley, Cheshire (Sykes Cottages listing), this one takes “one well-behaved pet” — read as a single dog rather than several. A separate refundable £150 bond applies generally to the booking, not specifically for the dog, and no areas of the property are stated as off-limits.
What we couldn’t confirm
Carden Park Hotel, Rowton Hall Hotel & Spa, Nunsmere Hall Hotel, Mere Court Hotel and the Royal Oak in Tarporley all get mentioned as dog-friendly around the web, but none of them publish a specific policy (number of dogs, fee, restrictions) on their own site that we could stand behind. Fishpool Farm Caravan Park near Tarporley is well regarded, but its own site blocks automated checks and a forum thread raised a genuine question over whether dogs are allowed near its fishing lake, so we’ve left it off rather than guess. Forest Holidays Delamere Forest clearly welcomes dogs (there’s even a dog treat menu) but doesn’t publish the per-cabin policy online — call 0333 011 0495 if that’s the one you want.
A new place to sleep can unsettle even a well-travelled dog. If your dog gets fretful on trips away, our Cheshire vets guide is worth bookmarking before you go, and we’ve found the calming collars and treats at Calmshops a useful complementary option — always check with your vet first if your dog has any underlying health conditions.
