Carmarthenshire has a good spread of pubs with a dog-friendly reputation, but Figo and I wanted a specific address and a stated policy, not just a general vibe. Here’s what checked out, alongside our Carmarthenshire hub page for the rest of the county’s dog services.
Pubs
The Forest Arms, Brechfa
At Brechfa, Carmarthenshire, SA32 7RA (Google Maps, dogfriendly.co.uk listing), dogs are confirmed on leads in the bar areas and the rear beer garden. Our source for this is from 2019, so it’s worth confirming the policy still stands before you travel, and booking ahead since dog-friendly seating may be limited.
Bunch of Grapes, Newcastle Emlyn
At Bridge Street, Newcastle Emlyn, SA38 9DU (Google Maps, CAMRA listing), CAMRA lists this pub as dog friendly, and Discover Carmarthenshire’s own page says dogs are “warmly welcomed with free treats.” Neither source says which areas of the pub this covers, or whether there’s a time cut-off, so it’s worth asking when you arrive.
Royal Oak, Rhandirmwyn
In Rhandirmwyn, near Llandovery, SA20 0NY (Google Maps, CAMRA listing), CAMRA’s own listing marks this pub dog friendly, though it doesn’t say which areas or times that covers — call ahead if that matters for your visit.
Friends Arms, Carmarthen
At Old St Clears Road, Carmarthen, SA31 3HH (Google Maps, CAMRA listing), CAMRA lists Friends Arms as dog friendly, again without area or time detail from the source.
Cwrw, Carmarthen
At 32 King Street, Carmarthen, SA31 1BS (Google Maps, CAMRA listing), Cwrw (formerly The Parrot) is also listed by CAMRA as dog friendly, with the same caveat as above — check on arrival if area or time matters to you.
Cafés
Wright’s Food Emporium, Llanarthne
At Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire, SA32 8JU (Google Maps, Squaremeal listing), dogs are welcome in the conservatory, fire room and outdoor area, but not in the front room or the shop itself. Guide dogs are welcome throughout.
Yr Orsaf, Pembrey Country Park
At Pembrey Country Park, Pembrey, Llanelli, SA16 0EJ (Google Maps, park’s own site), Yr Orsaf lists itself as dog friendly among the park’s facilities, though the page doesn’t say whether that covers indoor seating as well as outdoor.
Diod, Llandeilo
At 135 Rhosmaen Street, Llandeilo, SA19 6EN (Google Maps), Discover Carmarthenshire’s own page states dogs are welcome at this coffee shop and bar. We couldn’t find independent confirmation from the business’s own site or socials, so it’s worth a quick check before you go.
Restaurants
Tŷ Glo, Laugharne
On Market Lane, behind Laugharne Castle, SA33 4SB (Google Maps, OpenTable listing), Tŷ Glo lists “dog friendly” as an amenity, with no stated area restriction or time cut-off.
St Elli’s Bay, Llanelli
At the Discovery Centre, North Dock, Traeth Ffordd, Llanelli, SA15 2LF (Google Maps), Discover Carmarthenshire’s page says dogs are welcome in the ground-floor bistro and outdoor seating, which implies other areas of the building may not allow dogs.
What we couldn’t confirm
Several more names turn up on Discover Carmarthenshire’s own “Dog Friendly Days Out” page — Stacey’s Kitchen in Abergwili, Tŷ Mawr Country Hotel in Brechfa, Tŷ Te Cenarth and a “Lolfa” said to be near Diod in Llandeilo among them — but we couldn’t find an independent source confirming the address or dog policy for any of them, and one apparent “Lolfa Llandeilo” we traced turned out to be registered at an industrial estate rather than a café address. We’ve left those off rather than guess. If you know these venues and can confirm the detail, let us know and we’ll add them properly.
If you’re planning a pub or café stop with your dog, a lead that won’t tangle round table legs makes the whole thing easier — have a look at the leads and harnesses at Calmshops.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there dog-friendly pubs in Carmarthenshire?
Yes, we found five with some form of confirmed dog-friendly status. The Forest Arms in Brechfa and the Bunch of Grapes in Newcastle Emlyn have the most detail; the rest are sourced from CAMRA’s database, which doesn’t break down which areas or times the policy covers, so it’s worth asking when you arrive.
Is there a dog-friendly café in Carmarthenshire?
Yes. Wright’s Food Emporium in Llanarthne is the most clearly documented, with dogs welcome in the conservatory, fire room and outdoor area but not the front room or shop.
