Dog-Friendly Pubs, Cafés & Restaurants in Ceredigion

Ceredigion has a cluster of well-known dog-friendly pubs along the coast and in its market towns, but cafés and restaurants with a specific, stated policy proved much harder to pin down. Here’s what checked out, alongside our Ceredigion hub page for the rest of the county’s dog services.

Pubs

Y Talbot, Tregaron

At Y Sgwar, Tregaron, Ceredigion, SY25 6JL (Google Maps, CAMRA Bae Ceredigion), dogs aren’t allowed in the separate restaurant but are welcome in the bar areas, which serve the same food; VisitWales’ own listing confirms pets are accepted by arrangement. Dog-friendly accommodation is also available — call 01974 298208 to confirm specifics.

Sea Horse Inn, New Quay

At Uplands Square, New Quay, SA45 9QH (Google Maps, CAMRA listing), dogs are welcome in both bar areas until 9pm — one of the few New Quay pubs to allow this — and there’s a Dogs Trust collection tin on the bar.

Victoria Inn, Borth

At High Street, Borth, SY24 5HZ (Google Maps, CAMRA listing), dogs are welcome everywhere except the separate upstairs restaurant.

Tafarn y Cadwgan (Cadwgan Inn), Aberaeron

At 10 Market Street, Aberaeron, SA46 0AU (Google Maps, CAMRA listing), CAMRA tags this pub dog friendly, without saying which areas — worth asking when you arrive.

The Hafod Hotel, Devil’s Bridge

At Pontarfynach (Devil’s Bridge), Ceredigion, SY23 3JL (Google Maps, CAMRA listing), CAMRA describes this pub as “welcoming to families and dogs,” with dog-friendly accommodation also available, though it doesn’t say which parts of the pub this covers.

What we couldn’t confirm

We couldn’t verify a single café in Ceredigion to our usual standard — a specific address plus an independently sourced dog policy. Several names turn up on general “dog-friendly Wales” aggregator pages, but without an address or a policy statement we could stand behind, we’ve left them out rather than guess. The same goes for restaurants: we checked The Harbourmaster in Aberaeron, a well-known quayside hotel and restaurant, but couldn’t find an independent source stating its dog policy beyond generic booking-aggregator pages. A handful of other pubs — the Ship and Castle in Aberystwyth, the Monachty in Aberaeron, the Penrhiwgaled Arms near New Quay, and the Pentre Arms and the Ship in Llangrannog — also turn up on CAMRA’s own “walkers with dogs” list, but we couldn’t pin down a confirmed address or a second source for any of them in time for this piece, so we’ve held them back rather than publish half-checked.

If you’re planning a pub stop with your dog, a lead that won’t tangle round table legs makes the whole thing easier — have a look at the leads and harnesses at Calmshops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there dog-friendly pubs in Ceredigion?

Yes — five confirmed, including Y Talbot in Tregaron (dogs in the bar, not the separate restaurant) and the Sea Horse Inn in New Quay (dogs welcome until 9pm). A few others are CAMRA-tagged without area detail, so it’s worth asking when you arrive.

Is there a dog-friendly café or restaurant in Ceredigion?

We couldn’t verify one to our usual standard of a specific address plus a sourced policy. If you know a genuine one, let us know and we’ll check it out.
