Dog-Friendly Pubs, Cafés & Restaurants in Cornwall

Cornwall has a lot of pubs, and a lot of them will tell you “dogs welcome” without saying what that actually means in practice. We’ve leant on CAMRA’s own listings, venues’ own sites and a couple of official town tourism pages rather than generic aggregator blogs wherever we could. Our Cornwall hub page has the rest of our local guides if you need somewhere to stay or a vet while you’re here.

Pubs

Chain Locker, Quay Street, Falmouth, TR11 3HH (Google Maps) is dog-friendly downstairs, but not in the upstairs restaurant — per its CAMRA listing.
Ship Inn, 3 Trafalgar Square, Fowey, PL23 1AZ (Google Maps) carries a CAMRA “dog friendly” facility tag.
Red Lion, North Quay Hill, Newquay, TR7 1HE (Google Maps) welcomes dogs everywhere except the restaurant dining area, per CAMRA/WhatPub.
Dock Inn, 17 Quay Street, Penzance, TR18 4BD (Google Maps) states “families and dogs are welcome” with no area restriction, per CAMRA/WhatPub.
Crown Inn, St Ewe, PL26 6EY, near Heligan (Google Maps) welcomes dogs in the pub but not the garden, per the CAMRA Cornwall branch.
Lugger Inn, Polruan, across the river from Fowey (Google Maps) is described as “fully dog friendly” on the official fowey.co.uk tourism listing.
Pandora Inn, Mylor Bridge, near Falmouth (Google Maps) asks for dogs on leads, provides water bowls and treats, and has its own private beach.
William IV, The Wig & Pen and Try Dowr (Wetherspoon), all in Truro, are each tagged “Dog Friendly” on the official visittruro.org.uk dog-friendly bars page.

The Admiral Benbow, 46 Chapel Street, Penzance, is also listed as welcoming dogs of all sizes, best suited to the downstairs bar — but the source for this is a DogFriendly.co.uk listing last updated in 2021, so we’d recommend confirming before visiting.

Cafés

Truro has the best-sourced café coverage: Fodders Espresso Bar, 108 Coffee, Hub Box, Grounded and Arts Café are each individually tagged “Dog Friendly” on the official visittruro.org.uk page. In St Ives, the Porthmeor Beach Café welcomes dogs on its large terrace — worth knowing that Porthmeor beach itself has a seasonal dog ban, which doesn’t affect the café terrace. In Falmouth, the Gylly Beach Café at Gyllyngvase Beach allows dogs on its covered veranda, while the beach itself restricts dogs in season.

Restaurants

In Padstow, St Petroc’s Bistro and Rick Stein’s Café (both via the official rickstein.com) let dogs play in their outdoor gardens or courtyards — neither is stated as allowing dogs inside. In Falmouth, the Star and Garter on the High Street is described as dog-friendly with a fire dogs can settle by.

What we couldn’t confirm

St Austell Brewery’s own “dog-friendly” page says dogs are welcome at every one of its managed pubs, but doesn’t name any of them in the actual page text — so well-known names like the Harbour Inn, Rock Point Inn, Old Success Inn in Sennen Cove and the Hope & Anchor in Port Isaac are plausible but not individually confirmed here. We also hit a technical snag trying to check Looe’s own “Dog-Friendly Eat” tourism page, which lists 35 venues — Looe genuinely may have strong coverage, we just couldn’t retrieve the list this time, so treat Looe as unchecked rather than empty.

If you’re planning a longer day out, our Cornwall vets guide is worth having to hand, and the Calmdogs calming bites at Calmshops can take the edge off a busy harbourside lunch — always worth a word with your vet first. Our local dog walks guide and accommodation guide cover the rest of the day.
