Devon has a genuinely strong spread of dog-friendly pubs, cafés and bistros once you look beyond the generic “best of” listicles. We checked CAMRA’s own dog-friendly tags, tourism-board listings and venues’ own policy pages directly, and we’re naming two closures so they don’t get accidentally reused from an older list.
Exeter and East Devon
- The Ship, 1-3 Martins Lane, Exeter, EX1 1EY — dogs welcome in designated bar areas at manager’s discretion, on lead throughout, with water bowls and treats provided.
- Scapegoat, Central Station, Queen Street, Exeter, EX4 3SB — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Beach and Exmouth Arms, both Exmouth — CAMRA dog-friendly tags.
- Barrel of Beer, Fore Street, Beer, EX12 3EQ — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Dog House, Gold Street, Ottery St Mary, EX11 1DG — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
Dartmoor and the moor fringes
Rugglestone Inn, Widecombe-in-the-Moor, TQ13 7TF — CAMRA dog-friendly tag, dogs welcome on a lead. Visit Dartmoor’s own pages mention several hotels as generally dog-friendly in the bar, but don’t state a policy for any specific one, so we’ve left those out rather than assume.
South Hams and the South Devon coast
- Victoria Inn, Fore Street, Salcombe, TQ8 8BU — dogs welcome in the pub, with their own dog menu.
- Hunters Lodge Inn, Cornworthy, TQ9 7ES — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Pig & Whistle, Newton Road, Littlehempston, TQ9 6LT — dogs welcome in designated areas and some restaurant tables.
- Four Dartmouth venues confirmed via the town’s own visitor guide: Bayard’s Cove Inn (by the fire in winter), Dartmouth Arms, Embankment Bistro (outdoor seating) and Café Alf Resco.

Dawlish, Torquay and the Torbay coast
- Marine, 2 Marine Parade, Dawlish, EX7 9DJ, and South Devon Inn, Strand Hill, Dawlish, EX7 9HR — both CAMRA dog-friendly tags.
- The Haywain, near Cockington Village, Torquay — confirmed dog-friendly by the official English Riviera tourism board.
Two venues are worth flagging as closed, in case you see them on an older list: the Old Albert in St Marychurch, Torquay, closed in 2020, and Beefy Boys in Exeter closed between July and September 2026. Neither should be recommended any longer.
North Devon
- George & Dragon, 4 Fore Street, Ilfracombe, EX34 9ED — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Cork & Bottle, 56 High Street, Barnstaple, EX31 1JB — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Red Barn, Barton Road, Woolacombe, EX34 7DF — confirmed dog-friendly, whether you’re after coffee and cake or dinner, by the town’s own tourism board.
Plymouth
Admiral MacBride and Dolphin Hotel, both on The Barbican, Plymouth — both CAMRA dog-friendly tags. Visit Plymouth’s own tourism site lists over 30 further dog-friendly food and drink venues around the city, mostly without per-venue policy detail, so treat those as a wider “confirmed dog-friendly, policy unspecified” tier rather than a fully detailed listing. Plymouth city centre away from the Barbican turned up nothing with a sourced policy in this pass.
One honest note on Exmoor: several “Exmoor pub” lists point to the Tarr Farm Inn, the Royal Oak and others, but these are all actually in Somerset, not Devon, since Exmoor straddles both counties. We’ve kept this list to genuinely Devon venues. Wherever you go, a quick call ahead is sensible, especially around busy summer weekends. See our Devon dog services hub for the rest, and if your dog gets overexcited around new people and smells, a Calmdogs calming collar from Calmshops is one option alongside training.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there dog-friendly pubs on Dartmoor?
The Rugglestone Inn at Widecombe-in-the-Moor is confirmed dog-friendly. Several Dartmoor hotels are described generally as welcoming dogs in the bar, but without a stated per-venue policy, so it’s worth calling ahead.
Is the Old Albert in Torquay still open?
No, it closed in 2020 and the site has since been approved for residential conversion. Don’t rely on older lists that still mention it.
Are Exmoor’s dog-friendly pubs in Devon?
Not the well-known ones. Tarr Farm Inn, the Royal Oak and similar often-listed Exmoor pubs are actually in Somerset. Devon’s own Exmoor fringe, around Lynton and Lynmouth, is covered separately.
