Edinburgh does dog-friendly dining properly — water bowls, treats at the bar, sometimes a dog menu. As Scotland’s capital and biggest tourist city, there’s more here than in most of our other guides, and we checked each one against at least two independent sources. Our Edinburgh hub page has the rest of what we cover in the city.
Pubs
Scran & Scallie, Stockbridge
At 1 Comely Bank Road, Stockbridge, Edinburgh, EH4 1DT (Google Maps, CAMRA WhatPub listing), dogs are welcome throughout this gastropub.
The Torfin, Corstorphine
At 108 St John’s Road, Corstorphine, Edinburgh, EH12 8AX (Google Maps), well-behaved dogs are welcome with a dedicated dog station — towels, water and biscuits — and some of the overnight bedrooms are dog-friendly too. One source mentions an 8pm cut-off for dogs, which we haven’t been able to independently confirm, so check ahead if you’re planning an evening visit.
Rabble Taphouse & Grill, New Town
At 55A Frederick Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1LH (Google Maps), dogs are welcome in the bar area and roof garden, with water and treats available — one source suggests access extends further, so it’s worth asking on arrival.
The Espy, Portobello
At 62-64 Bath Street, Portobello, Edinburgh, EH15 1HF (Google Maps, CAMRA WhatPub listing), this well-known dog-friendly pub provides water bowls and doggy treats — but it’s currently closed for refurbishment, expected to reopen around the end of November 2026, so check it’s open again before you go.
Tolbooth Tavern, Canongate
At 167 Canongate, Edinburgh, EH8 8BN (Google Maps, CAMRA WhatPub listing), CAMRA tags this one dog friendly, though we couldn’t find a second source confirming the detail — worth a quick check on arrival.
Cafés
Honeycomb & Co., Bruntsfield
At 1 Merchiston Place, Edinburgh, EH10 4NP (Google Maps), well-behaved dogs are allowed on leads.
Toast, Leith
At 65 The Shore, Leith, Edinburgh, EH6 6RA (Google Maps), dogs are welcome to relax with a water bowl, right on the waterfront.
Restaurants
Black Ivy, Marchmont
At 4 Alvanley Terrace, Edinburgh, EH9 1DU (Google Maps, PetsPyjamas listing), dogs can access all areas including the outdoor terrace, with water and gravy bones provided.
Heading out after lunch, our Edinburgh swimming spots guide and vets guide are both worth a bookmark. If your dog gets a bit much around other diners, a calming collar from Calmshops can help take the edge off a busy pub garden — speak to your vet first if your dog has any underlying health conditions.
