Our main source for this list is CAMRA’s own pub database, which tags dog-friendliness as a genuine facility rather than marketing copy. That gives us solid pub coverage in most Kent towns. Cafés and restaurants are a different story: we found nothing we could confirm as genuinely dog-friendly from a venue’s own site or social media across the whole county, so we’re not listing any — that’s a genuine gap, not something we’ve missed.
Canterbury
- Old Buttermarket, 39 Burgate, CT1 2HW — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- New Inn, 19 Havelock Street, CT1 1NP — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Old City Bar, 2 Oaten Hill Place, CT1 3HJ — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Dog Inn, Wingham, CT3 1BB, just outside Canterbury — dog friendly through the bar, restaurant and bedrooms, worth knowing if you’re basing yourself nearby.
Maidstone
- Hare & Hounds, 47 Lower Boxley Road, ME14 2UY — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Swan, 437 Loose Road, Loose, ME15 9UJ — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Duke of Edinburgh, 1 Heath Road, Barming, ME16 9AR — friendly dogs on leads allowed.
- White Horse, 46 London Road, ME16 8QL — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
Worth knowing: the Dragoon on Sandling Road was dog-friendly on leads, but CAMRA marks it closed long-term since January 2023, being refitted by new owners — don’t make a special trip.
Tunbridge Wells
- Rose & Crown, 47 Grosvenor Road, TN1 2AY — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Guinea, 78 Calverley Road, TN1 2UJ — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Duke of York, 17 The Pantiles, TN2 5TD — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Sussex Arms, Sussex Mews, TN2 5TE — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Compasses, 45 Little Mount Sion, TN1 1YP — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
Whitstable & Thanet
- Twelve Taps, 102 High Street, Whitstable, CT5 1AZ — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Old Neptune, Marine Terrace, Whitstable, CT5 1EJ — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Marine Hotel, 33 Marine Parade, Tankerton, CT5 2BE — dog-friendly but not permitted in the restaurant.
- Dog & Sparrow, 1 John Street, Broadstairs, CT10 1LS — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
Two notes worth flagging: the Whitstable Labour Club turns up in searches but is a private members’ club, not a public pub, so it’s excluded. And the Dog & Duck in Margate was permanently closed years ago, the site demolished for housing — don’t go looking for it. Ramsgate itself came back with no CAMRA-tagged dog-friendly pub found in this pass — a genuine gap worth a targeted look if you need one.
Ashford, Sevenoaks & Tonbridge
- Pheasant, Trinity Road, Ashford, TN25 4QH — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Swan, Tufton Street, Ashford, TN23 1QN — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- White Hart, Tonbridge Road, Sevenoaks, TN13 1SG — dog-friendly in the bar and garden, not the carpeted areas.
- Chequers, 73 High Street, Sevenoaks, TN13 1LD — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Oak Tavern & Tap House, 135 High Street, Sevenoaks, TN13 1UP — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Station House, 8 Barden Road, Tonbridge, TN9 1TX — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- George & Dragon, 17 Shipbourne Road, Tonbridge, TN10 3DN — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
Two pubs called “Freeman Arms, Ashford” and “Ash Tree, Ashford” turn up in CAMRA’s database but carry TW15 postcodes — that’s Ashford in Surrey/Middlesex, nowhere near Kent, so both are excluded.
Dover & Folkestone
Dover town is a genuine gap: the one CAMRA-tagged dog-friendly pub we found, the Louis Armstrong on Maison Dieu Road, has been closed long-term since April 2025 with an uncertain future. In Folkestone, the Mariner, 16 The Stade, CT19 6AB, is CAMRA dog-friendly tagged and currently trading — but three other candidates (the Dog & Otter on the Harbour Arm, the Lifeboat on North Street, and the Raglan on Dover Road) are all closed long-term, so they’re excluded.
Dartford, Gravesend, Faversham & Sittingbourne
- Phoenix, 8 Market Street, Dartford, DA1 1ET — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Ship Inn, 92 Dartford Road, Dartford, DA1 3ER — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Clarendon Royal Hotel, Royal Pier Road, Gravesend, DA12 2BE — dog-friendly in the garden only; the only confirmed option we found in Gravesend, so coverage there is thin.
- Shipwrights Arms, Hollowshore, Faversham, ME13 7TU — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Anchor, 52 Abbey Street, Faversham, ME13 7BP — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Bank, 44-45 Court Street, Faversham, ME13 7AL (newly opened, March 2026) — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Park Tavern, 86 Park Road, Sittingbourne, ME10 1DZ — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Yellow Stocks, 22A High Street, Sittingbourne, ME10 4PD — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
Deal, Sandwich, Cranbrook & Edenbridge
- The Farrier, 90 Manor Road, Deal, CT14 9DB — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Deal Hoy, 16 Duke Street, Deal, CT14 6DU — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- New Inn, 2 Harnet Street, Sandwich, CT13 9ES — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Lazy Elephant, 10-12 New Street, Sandwich, CT13 9AB — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Barbican Beer Garden, Ramsgate Road, Sandwich, CT13 9DU — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
- Larkins’ Alehouse, 7 High Street, Cranbrook, TN17 3EB — dogs welcome on leads.
- Old Eden, 121 High Street, Edenbridge, TN8 5AX — CAMRA dog-friendly tag.
The King & Queen in Edenbridge was dog-friendly in the bar, but CAMRA marks it closed long-term since November 2021 — though that status note itself hasn’t been refreshed since late 2022, so it may be worth a quick check before fully ruling it out.

A pub on a busy weekend is a lot of noise and new smells for some dogs to take in. Figo settles once he’s found his spot under the table, but a calming collar or treat can help take the edge off those first few minutes if yours needs it. If the anxiety doesn’t ease with familiarity, that’s worth raising with your vet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a dog-friendly restaurant or café in Kent?
We couldn’t confirm a single one from a venue’s own site or social media anywhere in the county — a genuine gap. Pubs are a much stronger bet across most Kent towns.
Which Kent towns have no dog-friendly pub?
Ramsgate and Dover town both came back as genuine gaps in this research pass, with the one previously dog-friendly Dover pub now closed long-term. Gravesend has only one confirmed option, and it’s garden-only.
Do all these pubs let dogs in everywhere?
No — several restrict dogs to a specific area, such as the White Hart in Sevenoaks (bar and garden only) or the Marine Hotel in Tankerton (not the restaurant). Always check on arrival.
