CAMRA’s own “Dog Friendly” facility tags gave us a genuine spread of pubs across Neath Port Talbot’s towns, though several closed venues needed catching and excluding along the way. Cafés and restaurants are a consistent, total gap right across the county — no official or tourism-board list exists, so we’ve left that category out rather than pad it with blog round-ups.
Neath
New Exeter, 52 Briton Ferry Road, Neath SA11 1AP — CAMRA “Dog Friendly” tag. Smiths Arms, New Road, Neath Abbey SA10 7DG — dogs welcome in the bar area only. Cross Keys Hotel, 1A St Davids Street, Neath SA11 3AA — CAMRA “Dog Friendly” tag.
Port Talbot / Aberavon / Taibach
Somerset Arms (“The Sker”), Commercial Road, Taibach, Port Talbot SA13 1LP — dogs welcome, limited to the main bar; a family-run pub that reopened in 2024. Worth knowing before you head to the seafront: Aberavon Beach has an active council dog-control order with a live public consultation on extending the rules, so check Neath Port Talbot Council’s own page before assuming a particular stretch is dog-friendly.
Pontardawe & Alltwen
Pontardawe Inn (Gwachel), 123 Herbert Street, Pontardawe SA8 4ED — the best-sourced single venue in this whole batch, confirmed dog-friendly by both CAMRA and a dedicated dog-friendly directory, and the winner of a 2023 Dog Friendly Award; dogs aren’t allowed in the restaurant area specifically. Gwyn Arms, 4 Gwyn’s Place, Alltwen SA8 3AJ — CAMRA “Dog Friendly” tag. Butchers at Alltwen, Alltwen Hill SA8 3BP — dogs welcome in the bar only.
Glynneath
Dinas Rock Hotel, High Street, Glynneath SA11 5AP — CAMRA “Dog Friendly” tag. Lamb & Flag Hotel, 1 Wellfield Place SA11 5ER — dogs welcome in the front part of the main bar; this pub only reopened in September 2026 after a closure, so some facilities may still be settling in. Sgwd Gwladys, Pontneathvaughan Road, nearby Pontneddfechan SA11 5NR — CAMRA “Dog Friendly” tag.
Skewen & Baglan
Crown, 216 New Road, Skewen SA10 6EW — CAMRA “Dog Friendly” tag; reopened in 2024 as a community pub. Tyn Y Twr Tavern, Baglan SA12 8YB — dogs welcome in the bar and garden, and the pub even offers its own dog menu.
Closed pubs excluded
Several previously dog-friendly-tagged pubs have since closed for good and are excluded here: Warner’s Bar and the Market Tavern in Port Talbot, the Royal British Legion in Port Talbot (sold at auction in 2026), the Earl of Jersey and the demolished Melin Manor Hotel in Briton Ferry, Ynysmeudwy Arms and Kitty’s in Pontardawe, and Bagle Brook in Baglan (closed as part of a nationwide chain closure).
Genuine gaps
We couldn’t confirm a single dog-friendly pub in Resolven, Briton Ferry or Cwmavon — in each case the only venues we found were either members’ clubs rather than public pubs, or came back closed. Cafés and restaurants didn’t clear our usual bar anywhere in the county: no tourism board, BID or equivalent official list exists for Neath Port Talbot, so we’ve left the category out entirely rather than publish unverified leads.

A new pub garden full of unfamiliar smells and other dogs can be a lot for a nervier companion. A calming bite before you set off can help them settle in rather than spend the whole visit on edge. If the anxiety runs deeper than a new environment, that’s a conversation for your vet.
