Dog-Friendly Pubs, Cafés & Restaurants in Wrexham

Dog resting on a table at a dog-friendly pub or café

Wrexham’s dog-friendly pubs are scattered across the borough, with two National Trust tearooms at Erddig and Chirk Castle. Most pub entries rest on a CAMRA “Dog Friendly” tag that doesn’t say where dogs can sit, so we’ve given the detail where it exists and said so where it doesn’t. We also found two pubs that still carry the tag but have closed.

Pubs

Pant-yr-Ochain in Gresford (LL12 8TY) is a Brunning & Price pub whose own page calls its bar areas “a haven for dogs and their owners”. We couldn’t confirm the restaurant or garden policy. In Chirk, the Hand Hotel (LL14 5EY) and the Bridge Inn at Chirk Bank (LL14 5BU) both carry the CAMRA tag, the Bridge Inn on its tiled area only. It reopened in July 2026, so check it’s open. Elsewhere, the Red Lion in Marford, Tyn-y-Capel in Minera, the Cross Foxes in Erbistock and the Golden Lion in Rossett carry the tag with no conditions given. The Boat Inn at Erbistock allows dogs in one of its restaurants, and the Bridge End Inn in Ruabon in its lounge, though it’s closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Tearooms at Erddig and Chirk Castle

At Erddig (National Trust), dogs are welcome in the Parlour for tea, coffee and cake, but not in the Hayloft Restaurant, which admits assistance dogs only. At Chirk Castle, dogs other than assistance dogs are allowed only in the tearoom’s overflow seating and the courtyard’s outdoor seating. Inside the café and castle is for assistance dogs only.

Closed, not confirmed and gaps

The White Horse in Overton-on-Dee and the Royal Oak in Bangor-on-Dee are listed as closed long term, though older guides still call them dog-friendly, so we haven’t included them. Directory listings name the Nags Head in Wrexham, the Boathouse, the Griffin Inn and Caffi Cyfle at Gwersyllt, but we couldn’t confirm them from the venues or CAMRA. We found nothing verified for Holt, Brymbo, Coedpoeth, Cefn Mawr or Rhosllanerchrugog, and almost no café evidence beyond the National Trust sites. Llangollen venues are in Denbighshire.

A busy pub can be a lot for a nervous dog, and a calming bite may help take the edge off. If your dog finds crowds hard, speak to your vet. For somewhere to walk it off, see our dog walks in Wrexham, and our Wrexham dog services hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can dogs go in the tearoom at Chirk Castle?

Only in the overflow seating and the courtyard’s outdoor seating. The National Trust says inside the café and castle is assistance dogs only.

Are dogs allowed in the Parlour at Erddig?

Yes, for tea, coffee and cake. Dogs aren’t permitted inside the Hayloft Restaurant, except assistance dogs.

What does CAMRA’s Dog Friendly tag mean?

It means the pub welcomes dogs, but it often doesn’t say where. Some listings add detail, such as a lounge only, so ring ahead if it matters.
