Secure Dog Fields in Essex

A dog running happily across an open grass field, illustrating a secure dog field in Manchester

Essex turned out to be one of the better-served counties we’ve looked at for secure, private-hire dog fields — useful if you’ve got a reactive, anxious or simply ball-obsessed dog who needs space without other dogs or people around. We checked each field’s own website or booking page against at least one independent source before including it here.

Foxes Farm Fields (multiple sites)

The strongest-verified operator in the county, with eight fields across Essex: two at Basildon (Dunton Road, Laindon, SS15 4BU), two more near Basildon (Wash Road, Noak Bridge, SS15 4BP), two at Upminster (Hall Lane/Bird Lane, RM14), one at Colne Engaine near Colchester (Mill Lane, CO6 2HX), and “The Paw Patch” at Eight Ash Green near Colchester (Foxes Lane, CO6 3PS) plus a second Paw Patch field at Great Bromley (Hilliards Road, CO7 7US). Booking is online, with a 24-hour cancellation policy. One honest flag: the pricing on their own site is a little inconsistent between sections — sessions are quoted from £10 for 25 minutes, but the 55-minute rate appears as both “from £13” and £15–16 depending on which part of the page you read, so check the current price when you book rather than relying on any figure here.

Bounce Dogs Essex

Ongar Road, Writtle, Chelmsford, CM1 3NZ. A one-acre field with 5ft fencing, sole use, from £10 a session (plus £3 per extra dog). Genuinely verified across two independent sources, though reviewers on one aggregator reported mixed ground conditions (mud and overgrown grass at times) — worth checking recent reviews before you book.

Dengie Bark Park

Mayland Hall Farm, Mayland Hill, Mayland, CM3 6EA. Three acres, 6ft fencing, agility kit and a sand pit, plus a new outdoor heated dog-swim pool. One thing to check before you book: the pricing we found reads more like group “socials” than guaranteed exclusive hire, so confirm solo/private booking directly with the farm if that’s what you need.

Slamseys Dog Field

Blackley Lane, Great Notley, Braintree, CM77 7QW. £12 for a 50-minute session (up to four dogs), two acres, 6ft fencing, mown paths and log obstacles. The gate code is emailed 24 hours ahead of your booking — a good sign this is genuinely exclusive hire, not a shared field.

Well Dog Field

Little Wellhouse Farm, Stifford Clays Road, Grays, RM16 3NH. 0.9 acres, exclusive use, with a 10-minute buffer built into the booking system between sessions so you never cross paths with the group before or after you. This is the most-reviewed field we found in Essex, which is a good sign of an established, genuine business.

A few we couldn’t confirm

Several more fields turned up in searches — near Ongar, Little Waltham, Ford End, Great Dunmow and a couple more near Rawreth and Bowers Gifford — but we couldn’t find an independent second source, a confirmed address, or in one case a clash with a same-named field over the county border, so we’ve left them off this list rather than publish anything we can’t stand behind.

A private field session is also a good place to practise recall without distractions — our dog nutrition guide is worth a read if you’re working on a dog who needs a bit more focus for training.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there secure, private-hire dog fields in Essex?

Yes — five genuinely verified fields across the county, from Writtle near Chelmsford to Grays and the Colchester area.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, all of the fields listed here take bookings online or by phone, and most build in a gap between sessions so you have the field to yourselves.

Why aren’t some Essex dog fields we found online listed here?

A handful of candidates had no independent corroboration we could confirm — conflicting addresses, or just an aggregator listing with no operator website — so we’ve left them out rather than guess.
