Dog-Friendly Pubs, Cafés & Restaurants in West Yorkshire

Dog resting on a table at a dog-friendly pub or café

West Yorkshire is a good county for dog-friendly pubs, especially in Leeds, Saltaire, Ilkley and the Calder Valley. Most entries below rest on CAMRA’s “Dog Friendly” tag or a visitor-body page, which rarely say which rooms dogs can use, and several pubs have recently changed hands or names, so ring ahead. This is a sample, not a full census.

Leeds, Saltaire and Ilkley

In Leeds, CAMRA tags the Railway at Rodley (rear beer garden popular with dogs), the Brewery Tap on New Station Street and the pub on Bridge End listed as Bookseller’s Arms, which changed name in July 2026. In Saltaire, the Boathouse Inn and the Victoria carry the tag, though the Victoria changed management in June 2026 and a new survey is awaited. In Ilkley, the Yorkie Cow allows dogs but asks for notice, and the Cow & Calf allows dogs but not in the restaurant area, from a 2022 listing.

Calder Valley, Halifax and Huddersfield

Visit Calderdale lists Mooch Cafe Bar in Hebden Bridge (“we are dog-friendly”), the Robin Hood Inn at Pecket Well (well-behaved dogs on a lead, fenced beer garden) and the Fox and Goose Inn in Hebden Bridge. CAMRA tags Stubbing Wharf in Hebden Bridge, which reopened in April 2026 after a closure, the White Horse in Halifax and the Town Terrier in Huddersfield, which has been renovated since the tag was set.

Cafés and estates

At Yorkshire Sculpture Park, dogs are welcome on the terrace and in designated indoor seating, with different rules for each outlet, so check its dog page. Lotherton Hall’s café permits well-behaved dogs all year. At Harewood House, dogs can use the Courtyard Café’s dog-friendly seating but not the Terrace Café indoors, and leads are required at all times. At Nostell (National Trust), dogs are welcome in the rear section of the Courtyard Café only. Experience Wakefield’s guide names The Boathouse at Newmillerdam, OL in Horbury, The Mad Ox and The Black Swan as dog-friendly, but it is a tourism page, so confirm with the venue.

Where dogs can’t go, and what we couldn’t confirm

East Riddlesden Hall’s tearoom takes assistance dogs only, and the Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth allows only registered assistance dogs. Salts Mill allows guide and assistance dogs, and small dogs carried by their owners in galleries and shops but not restaurants. A Discover Leeds list from 2024 names many more Leeds pubs, but without operator confirmation we’ve left them as leads. We couldn’t confirm Temple Newsam, Golden Acre, Roundhay cafés, Bradford city, Keighley, Haworth or Otley.

Busy pubs can overwhelm a nervier dog. A calming bite before you set off can help take the edge off, and if the nerves run deeper, that is a conversation for your vet.
