Choosing a vet in Aberdeenshire often comes down to distance, because the county is large and out-of-hours care can be a long drive. Figo and I checked Google Maps and nine practices pass our bar: a listing, a website and at least 50 reviews, in a town we could pin down. We haven’t visited them and can’t judge the quality of care, so treat the ratings as other owners’ opinions. All are sorted below by number of reviews.

What we left out and haven’t checked
We left out practices inside Aberdeen City, which are covered by our wider vets near me guide, and Seafield Veterinary Group, which has several branches and a listing we couldn’t pin to one town. Chris Humes in Ellon (4.7 from 147 reviews) has no website on its listing. Google ratings come from the public, not from us, and we haven’t checked each practice’s registration, fees or out-of-hours arrangements.
What to ask before you register
Ask who covers emergencies at night and weekends, how far that is from you, what the consultation fee is and whether the practice takes new patients. If your dog finds the waiting room stressful, ask for a quiet slot. A calming bite is a complementary feed and not a medicine, so for anything about your dog’s health or anxiety, speak to your vet first.
