Cornwall Council’s dog order names 49 beaches. On 34 of them dogs are banned from 1 July to 31 August between 10am and 6pm, on 11 Blue Flag and Seaside Award beaches the ban runs longer, from 15 May to 30 September (also 10am to 6pm), and on three spots dogs are banned all year. One more, Summerleaze in Bude, is a leads-only beach. Below is every beach on the council’s list, plus beaches where the National Trust or Visit Cornwall says dogs are allowed, each with a Google Maps link.
I want to be upfront about what this page is. The council publishes a list of beaches where dogs are restricted. It does not publish a list of beaches where they are not, so the “dogs allowed all year” beaches below come from National Trust and Visit Cornwall pages instead, and we name the source each time. We have not guessed. Beaches that are not on the council’s list, including National Trust and privately owned beaches, are not covered by this order and can have their own rules, so check the signs on the day or the owner’s website. If you are planning a full day out, our guide to local dog walks in Cornwall sets out the walks we checked.
The rules in short
The order is the Cornwall Council Public Spaces Protection (Dogs on Beaches) Order 2026. It came into force on 13 April 2026 for three years. During the dates and times below, taking a dog onto the named beaches, or letting it stay there, is an offence unless you have a reasonable excuse or the landowner has consented. Assistance dogs and working dogs (for example search and rescue, law enforcement and the armed forces) are exempt. A conviction can mean a fine of up to £1,000, and the council can offer a £100 fixed penalty notice instead. Outside the dates and times shown for each beach, this order does not restrict dogs, but the council’s page also mentions three protected wildlife areas with their own rules that it does not name, and privately owned beaches can set their own, so always read the signs.
Dogs allowed all year: National Trust beaches
These beaches are on National Trust land, and the Trust’s own pages say dogs are welcome. They are not on the council’s restricted list. The Trust asks for close control, and a short lead around livestock and ground-nesting birds. Postcodes are the ones given on the Trust’s pages. For everything else dog-related in the county, start from our Cornwall area guide.

The council says Blue Flag and Seaside Award beaches have longer restrictions because of the award requirements. At these 11 beaches dogs are not allowed from 10am to 6pm between 15 May and 30 September. If your dog needs a safe run while the ban is on, secure dog fields in Cornwall are worth a look.

What we could not confirm
The council’s page gives no postcodes, dog bin locations or parking details. Where a postcode appears on a card it comes from the National Trust or Visit Cornwall page, and we have left bins and parking out rather than guess. It also does not name the three protected wildlife areas that have separate rules. Beaches that are not on the council list, such as Fistral, are not covered by this order and we have found no confirmed rule for them, so check the beach owner’s page or the signage.
A few other beaches we looked at had unclear or possibly out-of-date wording, so we have not given them a card. Please check locally before you go: East Looe, Coverack, Polkerris, Gorran Haven, Trebarwith Strand, Pendower and Carne, Hemmick and Vault, and Pentewan. Visit Cornwall mentions lead or seasonal rules for some of these without clear dates, the National Trust gives no beach-specific rule for a couple, and at Pentewan the owners decide.
Staying overnight? Our dog-friendly stays in Cornwall list places that publish their dog policy.
Busy beaches can be exciting for a dog. If yours finds crowds unsettling, the Calmdogs calming bites are a complementary feed some owners keep for days out, though for ongoing anxiety it’s best to speak to your vet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I take my dog on a Cornwall beach in summer?
On many Cornwall beaches, yes, but not all day. Under Cornwall Council’s 2026 order, dogs are banned from 10am to 6pm on named beaches between 1 July and 31 August, or between 15 May and 30 September on the Blue Flag and Seaside Award beaches. Always check the signs on the day.
Are dogs banned on any Cornwall beaches all year?
Yes. Carnsew Pool, Copperhouse Pool and Hayle Estuary have a 24-hour ban on dogs all year, according to Cornwall Council’s order.
What is the fine for having a dog on a restricted Cornwall beach?
The order says a conviction can lead to a fine of up to £1,000, and the council can issue a £100 fixed penalty notice instead. Assistance dogs and certain working dogs are exempt.
Which Cornwall beaches allow dogs all year?
Beaches that are not on the council’s restricted list include several National Trust beaches such as Crantock, Holywell Bay, Sandymouth and Duckpool, where the Trust says dogs are welcome all year under control. Visit Cornwall also lists Perranporth and Par Sands as dog-friendly all year. Always check the signs on the day.
